Opportunities for Volunteers
College and university students may earn class credit by volunteering.
If you are a college or university student majoring in psychology, social welfare, or a related field, you may apply to work as a volunteer in our Comprehensive Therapeutic Nursery. Because this is a small program, we use only a few carefully selected volunteers each year. The work is demanding and unpaid, but many students have discovered their career path here.
Guidelines for volunteers
- A volunteer must be enrolled in a class or other organized program in a college or university, preferably in the junior or senior year. Most volunteers are majoring in psychology, social welfare, or a related field, but students majoring in other fields may also be interested.
- A volunteer must commit to work in the classroom at least five hours a week for at least one full semester.
- All of the work of volunteers is in the classroom and is closely supervised.
- Volunteers are encouraged to attend in-service trainings.
How to apply to volunteer
- Call the Director of the Comprehensive Therapeutic Nursery at 510.412.9200 for more information.
- Be prepared to submit a resume describing your education and any special training as well as references from three unrelated persons who will be able to vouch for your character.
- Be prepared to submit your fingerprints for a criminal record check and a child abuse index check. These are requirements of the State Community Care Licensing Division.
- Be prepared to provide evidence of a recent clear TB test.
